Press Release: PTA takes the next step in his post stroke brain recovery

adan 7 2015 bluePress Release

The Headliner, Newsletter of the Brain Injury Alliance of Oregon, Summer/Fall 2015, “Physical Therapy Assistant takes the next step in his post stroke brain recovery”

Through 2012, Adan Montoya was an active

physical therapist’s assistant (PTA) who loved

trail running and mountain biking. He was rarely

sick, but one day came home from work with

what he thought was a chest cold. A trip to the

ER three days later identified the issue as a mild

heart attack, and Adan was rushed to the cath

lab. During the coronary angioplasty procedure,

he suffered a stroke that damaged his cerebellum

and brain stem. He underwent a lifesaving

mechanical thrombectomy that removed the

blockage, but the initial neurological results were

catastrophic.
