20 year study: Walking Improves Cognitive Abilities in Aging Women

More than 40% of retired NFL players suffer brain damage

A study presented at a recent American Academy of Neurology (AAN) meeting offers one of the most conclusive pieces of evidence yet of a definitive link between brain injury and playing football.

It shows that “more than 40 percent of retired National Football League players … had signs of traumatic brain injury based on sensitive MRI scans called diffusion tensor imaging.”

Set of Genes Linked to Stroke and Dementia Identified

Researchers have identified a new set of genes that may be responsible for the two most common and disabling neurological conditions, stroke and dementia.

Researchers identified a new gene called FOXF2 which increased the risk of having a stroke due to small vessel disease in the brain.

According to the researchers small vessel disease not only causes stroke but is also a major contributor to dementia risk, and is associated with gait problems and depression.
